Before specializing in Psychiatry he completed vocational training in General Practice and as result he has a good understanding of the needs of the General Practitioner. As well as General Adult Psychiatry he has special interests in forensic psychiatry and cognitive therapy.

Dr Allen is a Consultant Adult and Addictions Psychiatrist. In his private practice, as well as accepting referrals across the spectrum of general adult psychiatry, he specialises in seeing people with problems arising from their work situation. He has a special interest in medico-legal work, is fully trained and experienced in report writing and appears as an expert witness in family proceedings.

After a first career in neuroscience research at the University of Bristol, Joanna qualified with a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Reading.
